eSIM as a card benefit, from the rule to the extra eSIM

Set the benefit rule, check eligibility with a customer token, and let the customer install in your app. Paid extra eSIMs run through your own payment step.

Short answer: A card benefit is a rule, a check, and an install. The eSIM API checks eligibility with a customer token, issues the plan in your app, and sells extra eSIMs through your own payment step.

  • A rule per tier
  • Eligibility without card data
  • Extra eSIMs at your price
The flow

The rule decides. The app delivers.

How the eSIM API runs as a card benefit: the rule, the check, the install, and the extra eSIM. Pick a step to see it.

01 / Step

Set the benefit rule

The rule lists the eligible tiers, the data included per trip, and the paid plans. The card program funds the allowance.

How to run it.

01Set up

  • Set the rule: the eligible tiers, the data included per trip, and the paid plans.
  • Fund the allowance from the card program budget.
  • Connect the entitlement and order APIs in the sandbox.

02In the app

  • Show the benefit in the travel section of the app.
  • Check eligibility with a customer token and a segment, never with card data.
  • Issue the plan and show the install step in the app.

03During the trip

  • Offer an extra eSIM at your price when the allowance runs low.
  • Charge it through your own payment step, and install it in the app.
  • Keep the plan history in the app.

04Support

  • Choose the support split: your app answers first, and RoamWorks handles provisioning and activation.
  • Check the issuer and card network rules before launch.
Measure

Three numbers to review in a pilot.

  1. Benefits activated per 100 eligible trips
  2. Paid extra eSIMs per 100 benefits
  3. Travel section opens per month

Good to know
  • Issuer and card network rules apply. Check them before launch.
  • Never send card data. Eligibility uses a customer token and a segment.
  • The included allowance and a paid extra eSIM are separate lines.
The solution

Fintech and cards

Add a travel data benefit to the app. The bank sets eligibility, funds an allowance, and keeps the customer in its app.

How does the app check eligibility?

With a customer token and a segment from your systems. The API never needs card data.

Where does the customer install?

In your app. The install link opens on the same phone, and the app keeps the plan history.

Can an extra eSIM use the card on file?

Yes. It runs through your own payment step, so the card data stays with you.

Can the benefit be a co-branded store?

Large banks can use a co-branded store. Most start with the benefit in the travel section of the app.
