SIM and eSIM for school trips

Data for every trip leader, and for each student whose parent opts in. The one-time code goes to the parent, and labelled SIM packs travel with the trip leader.

Short answer: The trip leader's phone is the contact for the whole group, so every leader gets data. A student gets data only when a parent opts in, and the one-time code goes to the parent, never to the student. A phone without eSIM gets a labelled SIM pack that the trip leader hands out.

  • Trip letter and departure day
  • Codes to parents
  • Packs with the trip leader
The flow

Trip leaders stay reachable, and parents opt in.

Four moments of a school trip: the trip letter, the codes to parents, the leader pack, and a failed install. Pick one to see it.

01 / Step

Trip letter opt-in

The trip letter asks each parent to opt in to data for the child. There is no pre-ticked box, and the answer goes on the trip list.

Does every student need data?

No. The trip leader's phone is the contact for the group. A student gets data only when a parent opts in.

Who gets the code of a student under 18?

The parent. The code never goes to the student, and the parent installs it at home.

What if a phone has no eSIM?

The trip leader hands out a labelled SIM pack on departure day. A locked phone gets neither, and the student stays in touch through the trip leader.

Do our phone rules still apply?

Yes. Your school rules on phones apply on the trip. Data does not change who may use a phone, or when.
