eSIM vouchers for the port days of a sailing

Map the ports to one plan, put a one-time voucher in the e-docs, and get guests to redeem before embarkation. The plan works ashore, and ship Wi-Fi covers the sea.

Short answer: A sailing is a list of port days. Map the ports to one plan, put a one-time voucher in the e-docs, and ask the guest to redeem before embarkation, because the plan works ashore, not at sea.

  • One plan for the port countries
  • A voucher in the e-docs
  • Ship Wi-Fi at sea
The flow

One voucher for the ports. Ship Wi-Fi for the sea.

How vouchers work on a sailing: the ports, the e-docs, the redemption, and the port day. Pick a step to see it.

01 / Step

Map the ports to a plan

The itinerary lists the port countries. One regional plan covers the ports in one region, and a port outside it is a gap with its own plan.

Playbook

How to run it.

01Set up

  • Map each itinerary to its port countries and one plan.
  • Note the gaps: a port outside the region, a tender port, or a private island.
  • Buy a voucher balance at a partner price.

02With the e-docs

  • Put one voucher for each guest who wants data in the e-docs.
  • Add the no-sea note: the plan works ashore in the listed countries.
  • Link the phone check and the install steps.

03Before embarkation

  • Remind guests to redeem and install at home or on the terminal Wi-Fi.
  • Sell SIM packs at the terminal for phones without eSIM.

04Support

  • Ship Wi-Fi stays the service at sea.
  • Choose the support split: guest services answers first, and RoamWorks handles activation.
Measure

Three numbers to review in a pilot.

  1. Vouchers redeemed before embarkation
  2. Guests online in the first port
  3. Help requests per port day

Good to know
  • The plan works ashore in the listed countries. It does not cover the open sea.
  • Check tender ports and private islands before the sailing.
  • Never print the eSIM QR. The voucher holds a one-time code.
  • The mobile hotspot is a second option for the family ashore, and the ship Wi-Fi stays the service at sea.
The solution

Cruise and ferries

Offer port-day data that matches the sailing. Send an eSIM voucher before travel, or sell SIM packs at the terminal and on board.

Who gets a voucher?

Each guest who wants data gets one voucher, matched to the itinerary. Each voucher is single use.

When should guests redeem?

Before embarkation, at home or on the terminal Wi-Fi. The plan starts in the first port country.

What about a port outside the region?

The sailing plan shows it as a gap. Offer a local plan for that port, or tell the guest to use ship Wi-Fi.

Can guests buy a SIM pack instead?

Yes, at the terminal, for phones with a SIM slot. Staff check the phone first.
