eSIM for exchange arrivals, until the local line

Put the code in the pre-departure pack, get each participant online at the arrival gate, and add a new eSIM each 30 days.

Short answer: An exchange arrival with data starts in the pre-departure pack and ends with a local line. The program sends the code, the participant lands online, the orientation helps the rest, and a new eSIM covers each 30 days until the local line.

  • The code before the flight
  • Online at the arrival gate
  • A new eSIM every 30 days

How to run it.

01Set up

  • Agree the plan for each host country with the RoamWorks team.
  • Add the code and the install steps to the pre-departure pack.
  • Decide who pays: the program, or the participant in the portal.

02Before departure

  • Send the code with the pre-departure pack. For a participant under 18, send it to a parent.
  • Remind the participant to install on Wi-Fi before the flight.

03On arrival

  • The participant messages the host family and the coordinator from the gate.
  • Keep SIM packs at the arrival orientation for phones without eSIM.
  • Check that each phone is unlocked before a handover.

04Until the local line

  • Offer a new eSIM three days before each plan ends.
  • Stop when the participant has a local line.

Good to know
  • Data only, with no local number. A local line comes from the host family, the school, or a local shop.
  • Codes for participants under 18 go to a parent.
  • Each further 30 days is a new eSIM, with no limit on the number.
  • Check the local rules for SIM sales at the orientation.

When does the participant get the code?

With the pre-departure pack. A code for a participant under 18 goes to a parent.

How long does the data last?

The first plan covers 30 days. Each further 30 days is a new eSIM, until the participant has a local line.

What if the phone has no eSIM?

The arrival orientation hands over a SIM pack after a phone check. A locked phone gets neither.

Does the participant get a local number?

No. The plan is data only. The host family, the school, or a local shop helps with a local line.
